Welcome to Ashland’s oldest restaurant and first public cocktail lounge.
In 1946 Omer and Hazel Hill personally constructed Omar’s Streak & Chicken House on the former Berkeley Hot Springs site, finding numerous mastodon bones during the excavation process. The top caliber experience Omar had gained working with the Harvey railroad houses, the Brown Derby and Savoy Hotel in Hollywood soon established Omar’s as one of the premier dining spots in Southern Oregon.
Successors Al and Betty Jo Brown continued the traditions of fine food and friendly, neighborhood bar from the mid-50′s to 1973.
In July 1974, Don Mercer, Roller Yondorf and Dave Wiley continued the tradition of fine food and service until 1980 when Bruce Dwight became the third partner (after Dave’s departure). The trio remained so until 2001 when Don and Bruce became partners. Don becoming old and ornery retired and sold his interest to James Williams, long time Omar’ s chef. Enter Chris Del Monaco, past sous chef, and Jen Sink, long time bartender and cocktail server, newest members of the Omar’ s ownership family. Both have been part of the restaurant for some time and will continue the tradition of fine food and great service.
